We
welcome you to our 2011 Symposium, open to all, members and
non-members Join
major Sound Healers with international recognition in the field, for
a
weekend of Science and Sound Healing.Share and learn with a variety of noted teachers their personal innovative Sound Healing techniques. Examine NEW possibilities of healing with Sound, using the voice, drums, Sacred Sound, ceremony, technology, and other tools for enhancing the profound effects on the body mind and spirit with Sound Healing.
Sound healing is rapidly becoming a most popular and respected healing modality, simply, because it works. Andrew Weill, MD, suggests it will be ‘the next yoga,’ meaning it will be used as commonly for wellness and healing as the many forms of yoga we see all around us today. Using sound to restore wellness, balance and harmony, awaken heightened states of awareness, voicing devotional chant to attune to the mystical, indigenous shamanic healing and journeying, intentional prayer, incantation, and affirmations, all have been used, understood, and accepted for the power and insight they bring, since the dawn of humanity. The new and growing field of bioacoustics, incorporating technology into the study of sound and its effects on living organisms, brings science directly into the equation, with growing evidence to support the power and use of sound in its many forms. Science, also, is developing specific technologies to enhance the use of sound, from medical applications, to hemisphere synchronization, balancing hearing and learning disorders, and psychoacoustic therapies. Join with leading practitioners and educators in the field
of sound healing to experience a weekend of healing and learning: Jeff Strong reveals how scientific sound technology creates healing,
personal transformation, and awakening of consciousness. Informed by
scientific, shamanic, and yogic traditions that use sound formulas and
rhythms to transform energy patterns and states of consciousness, . Silvia Nakkach, MA, MMT, founding
director of Vox Mundi School of the Voice, draws from her internationally
renowned music healing modality. Informed
by shamanic, scientific, and yogic traditions that use sound formulas and
rhythms to bring about transformation of energy patterns and consciousness
states, Silvia has a unique and engaging style that gives us in depth and
immediate experience, no matter our level or abilities. Lisa Rafel, president of Resonant Sounds, from California, has an
inherent power in her presenting style, enriched by her expertise in the use of
voice to heal one self and others. She
explores, with the authentic sound of one’s own voice, how to maintain boundaries,
while developing trust and intuition, with deep listening and breathing skills.
Zacciah Blackburn, PhD,
Director of the Center of Light Institute of Sound Healing and Shamanic
Studies, and Director of Education for the Sound Healing Network, will share practical
use of sound healing instruments, and intuitive voice, in therapeutic
application, for personal or professional use.
Having taught up to a 3 year curriculum in sound techniques for over a
dozen years, Zacciah enters his work with an uncanny ease and expertise, and
insight not often experienced, as to the qualities and use of therapeutic sound. If time permits, he will offer a world sound
healing experience (or shamanic sound journey?), utilizing voice and
instruments to enter heightened states of consciousness, through one’s own
subtle states of being. Saturday night, enjoy the incredible diversity of sounds generated by Ruth Cunningham, Nacho Arimany, & Friends. Ruth has gained great acclaim as one of the founding members of Anonymous 4, a world renowned group of a cappella vocalists. Nacho is a master ethnic percussionist and composer, who has toured with some of Spain’s notable Flamenco artists, and infused abstract Jazz, World Music, and shamanic understandings into his compositions. They combine their talents to offer an evening of transformative experience, weaving together deeply meditative music and joyful rhythms. They will draw our audience in, to explore and celebrate the power of music and sound. Come, experience, and learn from the expertise of these powerful presenters, sharing with us The Power of Sound! |

The Power of
Intentional Sound for Healing Lisa
Rafel’s Vocal Sound Healing technique offers a unique opportunity to develop
your vocal capacities for healing. We begin by joyously learning a selection of
impactful vocal sounds. Then you will experience how they affect your body and
the body of another. A key part of this training is to learn how to work with
your energetic boundary. This will place your client at ease, increase the
effectiveness of the sound itself, and deepen your intuitive skills. You will also
learn energetic principles that develop your listening and breathing skills. No
previous singing or healing experience is required.

The Use of Instruments and Voice in Therapeutic Practice Sound healing, or sound therapy, can be defined as the intentional use of sound or music to bring about enhanced states of wellness in our physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual being. Sound healing therapies are being incorporated into traditional and non-traditional healing practices, from one’s own home, to practitioners integrating sound practices with traditional massage, reiki, acupuncture, shamanism, nutrition, psychology, and standard medical practices. We will explore fundamental and enhanced methodologies for utilizing basic sound instruments in therapeutic application, from one's authentic voice, to Tibetan and Crystal bowls, bells, drums, rattles, tuning forks, and other simple instruments. We shall also add basic awareness practices with clear intent, which has been shown to enhance the effectiveness of sound and wellness exercises. As we build our our awareness through the first two hours of practice, we will close by coming into a group sound ceremony, with a focus on deeper levels of personal and planetary healing. |
