APOV and the Vermont State Roster ~~Zacciah Blackburn, PhD 03.28.13 Zacciah will be teaching at a semi-annual gathering of The Associated Psychotherapists of Vermont (APOV), Thursday, April 4, 2013, in Claremont NH.See program content here. All Wholistic Practitioners in Vermont will want to take note of this: APOV is..... "...a group of associated psychotherapists who fill an important niche in the therapeutic community in Vermont. We are associated by our desire to offer a wide variety of practices loosely held under the heading of psychotherapy. Our orientation is a large and inclusive framework which includes such models as body-centered and psycho-spiritual psychotherapies that seek to address the empowerment and well being of the whole person. We support emotional and spiritual growth and personal empowerment. We have gathered within an organization that seeks to represent a diversity of practitioners all under one umbrella.” The Vermont Statutes Defines Psychotherapy:(4) “Psychotherapy” means the provision of treatment, diagnosis, evaluation or counseling services to individuals or groups, for a consideration, for the purpose of alleviating mental disorders. “Psychotherapy” involves the application of therapeutic techniques to understand unconscious or conscious motivation, resolve emotional, relationship or attitudinal conflicts, or modify behavior which interferes with effective emotional, social or mental functioning. “Psychotherapy” follows a systematic procedure of psychotherapeutic intervention which takes place on a regular basis over a period of time, or, in the case of evaluation and brief psychotherapies, in a single or limited number of interventions. Vermont law requires that all psychotherapists be licensed, certified or registered with the state…APOV members are listed by the The State of Vermont with A Roster Called:The State Roster of Psychotherapists, Non-licensed and Non-Certified, which is maintained at the office Professional Regulation, in the Office of the Secretary of State, in Montpelier. This roster provides a list of such practitioners, their addresses and qualifications, and also a grievance procedure for processing complaints, if and when any should arise. The creation of the roster gives the public an opportunity to choose
from a broad spectrum of professional traditions, philosophies, and
working styles, together with a great measure of safety and redress. In
this, Vermont has been a leader and a role model to other States who are
considering how to serve the public in a more inclusive manner. APOV
members are legal to practice in the State of Vermont because of this
